The Yamaha doesn’t have a key, but if you screw up the kickstart it’ll fuck up your day. DD’d her today. Think I lost a few pounds on my rode home.

Not trying to make a political statement when I say this. But I w ish we lived in a time or place where the opposite was true. Everyone knows how to kick start a bike, but everyone leaves other people’s stuff alone.

Sweet, what model Yamaha is it? I’ve been wanting to get a bike for years, but I just can’t seem to justify dropping the money on one. Back when I was a teen, I used to ride the crappiest Honda 150 ever, but I got rid of it before it got rid of me lol.

If I were to get a bike now, any bike of my choosing, it’d probably be a Triumph Bonnie, but considering they sell for about the price of a cheap car here in Brazil, I’ve been liking the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 more an more. It may not be a Triumph, but reviews are good and it looks the part, so what the hell right? Best part is the wife actually supports me on this one.

Could be worse...it could've been a pull start! Neighbours quad bike uses this starting method.

This is how my dad’s dad died.  No lie, pull starting a 3 wheeler.

Yikes. Pull  starts have probably indirectly killed or maimed hundreds of thousands of people and machines over the years. At least one mower has died at my hands due to its pull start ‘failure’ and my resulting disgruntlement.

truth. Still in terms of ways to go, there has to be worse ways than being up in the mountains having a heart attack of old age starting a toy up. My wifes grandpa died skiing, literally died of a heart attack skiing.  Thats the way to go. My dad went a shitty way.

Yes, but it’s harder for the engine to punch you back with a pull start.

I almost rode mine today but live soooo far from work. I need to order a gel seat. I don't want to start  my day with an hour on a stock seat.

It’s a ‘77 TT500. I really like the Royal Enfield. I say go for it!

Same.

This bike, being a high compression thumper, requires a bit of single cylinder experience to be able to kick start.

This is definitely the comfiest seat I’ve ever owned. However, it didn’t do my any favors sitting in the sun in 1110 temps all day.

Glad to hear that! Enfield is planning to set up a factory in Brazil later this year, so prices are set to drop even further. Just for comparison’s sake, an entry level Honda CG 160 is priced at 12 thousand reais, while the GT650 will set you back some 22 thousand reais, so that’s less than twice the price for what is essentially 3 times more motorcycle? 4 times, maybe?

The engine just sits there and smirks as you get whipped with the broken pull cord.

Mind you, I have also been thrown by the kickstarter on a Yamaha trials bike so I know of what you speak...

Punch you back no, but randomly and unexpectedly attempt to rip your arm clean off yes. I’ve got a 10.25:1 piston in my 200x with a pull start, you do not want to catch that wrong. Consequentially I’ve mangled so many pull start mechanisms on that thing, I probably rebuild it twice a year, and only take it out a handful of times.
